VILLAGE TREASURER
The Village of North Barrington is looking to fill the position of Village Treasurer. The Treasurer is appointed by the Village President with the advice and consent of the Board of Trustees. Currently John Lobaito, Village Administrator, is fulfilling these duties while we search for a resident to fill this position. The former Village Treasurer, Mike Sands has relocated to Ohio.
The Village is looking for someone with a financial background. The Village Treasurer works closely with the Village Administrator and accountant on a monthly basis to prepare the monthly reports and warrants and on an annual basis with the auditors. The Treasurer compensation is $200 per month. The time commitment is approximately four (4) hours per month including attendance at monthly Village Board meetings. The Board meetings are on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.

VILLAGE GARDEN WALK
The Village of North Barrington and the Environmental and Health Commission is inviting interested residents to participate in the Neighborhood Garden Walk this August (date to be determined). This is your opportunity to share an insider’s look into your outdoor spaces, highlight vegetable gardening, incorporating native plants into your landscape, and conservation efforts. Plant enthusiasts will get to see how our North Barrington residents curate green spaces in their yards and around the neighborhood.
If you are interested in “hosting” your garden during an afternoon, please contact the Village Hall at info@northbarrington.org with availability during the August weekends so that we may begin preparations and planning for this event.

Yard Waste Collection
To enroll in the Seasonal Landscape and Yard Waste Collection:

SEASON: April 1 thru December 15, 2024.
COST: When using a large, wheeled cart provided by LRS: $152.39 annually. When using paper bag (limited to 20 per week): $112.72 annually.
Use Appropriate Container:
- Placed in a biodegradable paper “kraft” type bags of a capacity not to exceed 32 gallons or 50 lbs. in weight. Maximum of 20 bags per week.
- Placed in metal or plastic cans of a capacity not to exceed 32 gallons or 50 lbs. in weight.
- Placed in a large, wheeled cart provided by LRS.
- Landscape waste which cannot reasonably be placed in bags or cans, shall be securely tied with biodegradable string or twine, in bundles not to exceed four feet in length, 24 inches in diameter, and 50 lbs.in weight.
Leaf Vacuuming

PLACEMENT OF LEAVES Customers have the option of leaf vacuuming on customers’ property near the curb or near the paved portion of the road. Leaves shall not be placed on paved areas of the street.
Village Hall Summer Hours
Beginning Friday May 24, 2024, the Village Hall will be open from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
The summer hours be in effect through Friday August 30, 2024.
Electronics Collection
Street-Side E-scrap collection will be May 21, 2024 and September 24, 2024.These dates are on your regular refuse collection day. The following regulations apply.
- Limit 1 TV or monitor per customer and up to five (5) additional items.
- Electronics must be placed outside the night before. LRS will come early and only do a one-time pass. If you miss the date, LRS will accept a drop off at their Wauconda office, 1350 N. Old Rand.
- Place electronics by the recycle bin, DO NOT place the item inside the recycle bin. If you have small electronics (such as wires) place in a box by the garbage/recycle bins.
- NO kitchen appliances will be accepted (i.e., mixers, hand-held blenders, etc.).
Environmental News and Recycling
The Village offers recycling for small electronics, and shoes. The bins are located at the north end of the Village Hall.
The Village of Tower Lakes, as well as the Ela Township Library offer textile recycling bins. Walmart in Lake Zurich offers eye glass recycling. The Lake Zurich American Legion, 51 Lyons Drive, Lake Zurich, IL 60047 offers recycling for American Flag
Village Board Approves Design Engineering Contract for Storm Water Improvement Project
At the June 21, 2023 Village Board meeting, the Board of Trustees approved an engineering contract with Robinson Engineering to design and prepare bidding documents aimed at mitigating the flooding that is occurring in Grassmere Farm subdivision, Haverton Way, Duck Pond Ln., and IL Route 59.
The cause of the flooding is the result of failed storm water conveyance systems including collapsed field tiles over the past 10 years.The failed systems include storm pipes and open swales that generally convey storm water from the west (Haverton subdivision area) to the east under IL Route 59 to Grassmere Subdivision and then under IL Route 22 north through Oaksbury subdivision to Honey Lake.
The scope of the project although relatively simple in design, the planned improvements will require approval from multiple regulatory agencies having Jurisdiction including Army Corp of Engineers, Illinois Department of Transportation, Lake County Stormwater Management Commission, and Illinois Department of Natural Resources.The project will impact flood plain areas and wetlands.Permitting from the various agencies will be a significant part of the project.
The Village is in que for grant funding for the project of up to $2.5 million from the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.The grant funding is being coordinated and administered by the Lake County Storm Water Management Commission.The grant funding is not guaranteed.
The current schedule for the project is for the design engineering to be completed in the spring of 2024, the permit approval from the regulatory agencies to be completed in the summer of 2024, and the project is expected to start in the in the fall/winter of 2024.Please know that the schedule may be extended due to multiple state regulatory agencies permitting process.
Golf Cart Registration
Golf Carts driven on public streets must be registered with the Village of North Barrington. All golf carts driven on public streets must meet the requirements stipulated in the Village Code. Application and instructions can be downloaded here.
Key Provisions
- Must have a valid driver's license to operate a golf cart on a public street.
- Golf carts may only be driven on streets with a posted speed limit of 25 mph or lower.
- Applicants must provide a copy of insurance policy providing proof of liability insurance to operate the golf cart on a public street.
- Hours of Operation:
- Monday – Thursday: 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
- Friday – Saturday: 6:00 a.m. to Midnight

SWALCO will host monthly drop off events at the Gurnee facility to handle high demand items. Only the items below will be accepted.
